# Total aboveground biomass, Tecoma stans var. stans, dap only

Aboveground biomass equation for Tecoma stans var. stans, Peru, from Begazo Curie & Jave Nakayo 2018. 15 trees, DBH 3.8–19.1 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Begazo Curie & Jave Nakayo 2018 (Cuadro 9 / Resumen / Conclusiones):

> Ln ( BT ) = -2.9409 + 2.6925 × Ln (dap)

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = exp(-2.9409 + 2.6925 * ln(D))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: exp(-2.9409 + 2.6925 * ln(dap)), with dap in cm; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Cuadro 9 / Resumen / Conclusiones):

> Ln ( BT ) = -2.9409 + 2.6925 × Ln (dap)

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/begazo-2018-tecoma/#equation

**Trees measured** (Resumen):

> se evaluaron 44 individuos en total: 15 individuos de la especie Tecoma stans (L.) Juss. ex Kunth var. stans, 15 individuos para Grevillea robusta A. Cunn. ex R. Br, y 14 individuos para Schinus molle L.

**Our note:** Ln is natural log as printed; the Discusión notes that back-transformed log models underestimate but gives no correction factor, so none is applied. Biomass is oven-dry (103 °C) total aboveground (stem + branches + leaves), kg/tree; dap in cm, ht (total height) in m. DBH and height ranges are from Cuadro 2 (descriptive statistics of the sampled trees). Trees from a managed plantation at 2 x 2 m spacing, used to inform urban green areas. Cuadro 9 prints the slope as 2.6935; the abstract, results text and conclusions print 2.6925, which is used here.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 8 | 14.3 | 14.3 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |
| D = 15 | 77.5 | 77.5 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
