# Young black locust woody AGB from shoot basal diameter (Eq. 6)

Aboveground biomass equation (without leaves) for Robinia pseudoacacia, Germany, from Böhm et al. 2011. 1,242 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Böhm et al. 2011 (Table 2, equation 6):

> ln(M [kg]) = - 3.7933 + 2.8407 . ln(SBD [cm])

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass, without leaves in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass, without leaves = exp(-3.7933 + 2.8407 * ln(DRC)) * 1.099
```

Inputs: DRC = Root collar / stem base diameter (cm).
The source's own form: exp(-3.7933 + 2.8407 * ln(SBD)) * 1.099, with SBD in cm; output in kg.

This total leaves out leaves (foliage), as the source defines it.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 2, equation 6):

> ln(M [kg]) = - 3.7933 + 2.8407 . ln(SBD [cm])

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/bohm-2011-eq6/#equation

**Correction factor** (Table 2, equation 6):

> CF = 1.099

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/bohm-2011-eq6/#quote-fit-cf

**Trees measured** (Table 2 caption):

> n = 1242

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/bohm-2011-eq6/#quote-fit-n-trees

**Our note:** Output is total aboveground woody dry biomass of a single tree (kg); the trees were cut about 10 cm above the soil, so the lowest 10 cm of stem is not in the biomass. Foliage listed as excluded because the paper models woody biomass only. SBD (shoot basal diameter, measured with a caliper about 10 cm above the soil) is mapped to canonical DRC. Natural log, as printed in Table 2; M = CF * exp(ln(M)) per Eq. 3. Trees from 2, 3, 4 and 14 year old short-rotation plantations. The paper states 1243 trees in the text and n = 1242 in the Table 2 caption; the table value is used. The paper gives no diameter or height range for the fit, so none is set.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| DRC = 8 | 9.1 | 9.1 | Value printed in the paper: Table 3, SBD column, eq. 6 (rounded to 0.1 kg in the paper) |
| DRC = 9 | 12.7 | 12.7 | Value printed in the paper: Table 3, SBD column, eq. 6 (rounded to 0.1 kg in the paper) |
| DRC = 10 | 17.2 | 17.2 | Value printed in the paper: Table 3, SBD column, eq. 6 (rounded to 0.1 kg in the paper) |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
