# Guadua culm AGB from dbh, weighted linear model (Model 2, Table 4)

Aboveground biomass equation for Guadua angustifolia, Colombia, from Camargo García et al. 2024. 130 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Camargo García et al. 2024 (Table 4, Model 2 (form AGB = a1 + b1 × X1, Eq. 7)):

> M 2, P dbh, a −29.755, b 6.2659, R2 0.7866

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = -29.755 + 6.2659 * D
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: -29.755 + 6.2659 * dbh, with dbh in cm; output in kg.

## What it covers

- Output: Aboveground biomass, kg
- Taxon: Guadua angustifolia (species), family Poaceae; bamboo
- Where: Coffee region, Colombian Andes (six sites, 900 to 2000 m a.s.l.). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/camargo-2024-model2-linear/#where
- Biomes: tropical, montane
- Stand: natural
- Trees measured: 130. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/camargo-2024-model2-linear/#n_trees
- R²: 0.7866. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/camargo-2024-model2-linear/#r2
- Method: weighted linear regression (weights 1/dbh^2δ). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/camargo-2024-model2-linear/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/camargo-2024-model2-linear/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 4, Model 2 (form AGB = a1 + b1 × X1, Eq. 7)):

> M 2, P dbh, a −29.755, b 6.2659, R2 0.7866

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/camargo-2024-model2-linear/#equation

**Trees measured** (Sect. 3, Data collection and measurements):

> a total of 130 of these culms were used for destructive sampling and calculating biomass

**Our note:** Per culm (guadua bamboo), not per tree; dbh is culm diameter at breast height in cm, AGB in kg (culm + branches + leaves). Model 2 of the paper; the intercept is negative so the linear form gives negative AGB below dbh of about 4.7 cm. The paper's Table 2 gives culm dbh 6.6 to 16.6 cm for the assessed forests but does not say that is the fitted sample, so no range is recorded. Source table shows only the model number, predictor, a and b.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 8 | 20.4 | 20.4 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |
| D = 12 | 45.4 | 45.4 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |
| D = 16 | 70.5 | 70.5 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
