# Pinus cembroides, additive system S2 (D and H): foliage (twigs with leaves) biomass

Foliage biomass equation for Pinus cembroides Zucc., Mexico, from Cuevas Cruz & Aquino Ramírez 2020. 21 trees, DBH 3–40 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Cuevas Cruz & Aquino Ramírez 2020 (Fig. 2c, Table 1 (S2)):

> Brh = exp(−2.0728) × Dn^2.4631 × H^−1.1749; Table 1, S2 Ramillas con hojas: β30 2.07281, β31 2.463058, β33 −1.17492

In this library's units, ready to compute (foliage biomass in kg):

```
Foliage biomass = exp(-2.07281) * D^2.463058 * H^(-1.17492)
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: exp(-2.07281) * Dn^2.463058 * H^(-1.17492), with H in m, Dn in cm; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Fig. 2c, Table 1 (S2)):

> Brh = exp(−2.0728) × Dn^2.4631 × H^−1.1749; Table 1, S2 Ramillas con hojas: β30 2.07281, β31 2.463058, β33 −1.17492

**Trees measured** (Resumen / Resultados):

> un total de 21 árboles

**Our note:** System S2 (Eq. 7-10, B = exp[β0] × Dn^β1 × H^β2) fitted by GMM. Table 1 labels the H exponents β13, β23, β33 (read as β12, β22, β32). Table 1 prints the twig-and-leaf intercept β30 as 2.07281 (no minus) while Fig. 2c prints exp(−2.0728); the negative sign is used because the positive one gives hundreds of times the observed biomass. Adjusted R2 (not stored): stem 0.9704, branches 0.9476, twigs with leaves 0.9294, total 0.9802.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 14.1, H = 3.7 | 18.3 | 18.3 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (Fig. 2 and Table 1 coefficients) |
| D = 28.9, H = 6.9 | 51.6 | 51.6 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (Fig. 2 and Table 1 coefficients) |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
