# Pinus brutia needle biomass, Middle East (Eq. 40)

Foliage biomass equation for Pinus brutia, Syria, Lebanon, from de-Miguel et al. 2014. 201 trees, DBH 2.3–55.8 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in de-Miguel et al. 2014 (Table 3, Middle East, Eq. 40, p. 105):

> y = e^(−1.848 + 8.0·d/(d + 16.803))

In this library's units, ready to compute (foliage biomass in kg):

```
Foliage biomass = exp(-1.848 + 8.0 * D / (D + 16.803))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: exp(-1.848 + 8.0 * D / (D + 16.803)), with D in cm; output in kg.

- Height range: 3.1–32.5 m. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/de-miguel-2014-middle-east-needle-40/#height
- Method: nonlinear generalized least squares on the intrinsically linear form, power variance function (no back-transform correction). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/de-miguel-2014-middle-east-needle-40/#method
- Verification: read in the original source

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 3, Middle East, Eq. 40, p. 105):

> y = e^(−1.848 + 8.0·d/(d + 16.803))

**Trees measured** (Section 2.1, p. 103):

> 201 P. brutia trees

**Our note:** Printed residual standard error 0.909 and variance function coefficient δ = 0.801 (model fitted on the original scale, so RSE is not a log-scale value and is not entered as fit.rse). Total aboveground biomass = stem + branches + needles (dry). DBH-only forms are those the authors recommend for tree- and forest-level predictions. Country-specific DBH and height ranges are not printed; the ranges shown are for all 201 trees. Equations using crown length (19, 21) and the crown-biomass equations (23, 24, 33, 34, 43, 44) are not included.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
