# Pinus brutia stem biomass, Syria (Eq. 25)

Stem biomass equation for Pinus brutia, Syria, from de-Miguel et al. 2014. 100 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in de-Miguel et al. 2014 (Table 3, Syria, Eq. 25, p. 105):

> y = e^(−3.371 + 1.835·ln d + 0.937·ln h)

In this library's units, ready to compute (stem biomass in kg):

```
Stem biomass = exp(-3.371 + 1.835 * ln(D) + 0.937 * ln(H))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: exp(-3.371 + 1.835 * ln(D) + 0.937 * ln(H)), with D in cm, H in m; output in kg.

## What it covers

- Output: Stem biomass, kg
- Taxon: Pinus brutia (species), family Pinaceae; conifer
- Where: Syria (dense, even-aged stands). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/de-miguel-2014-syria-stem-25/#where
- Biomes: subtropical, dryland
- Stand: natural
- Trees measured: 100. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/de-miguel-2014-syria-stem-25/#n_trees
- Method: nonlinear generalized least squares on the intrinsically linear form, power variance function (no back-transform correction). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/de-miguel-2014-syria-stem-25/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/de-miguel-2014-syria-stem-25/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 3, Syria, Eq. 25, p. 105):

> y = e^(−3.371 + 1.835·ln d + 0.937·ln h)

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/de-miguel-2014-syria-stem-25/#equation

**Trees measured** (Section 2.1, p. 103):

> Syria (100 trees)

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/de-miguel-2014-syria-stem-25/#quote-fit-n-trees

**Our note:** Printed residual standard error 0.153 and variance function coefficient δ = 0.92 (model fitted on the original scale, so RSE is not a log-scale value and is not entered as fit.rse). Total aboveground biomass = stem + branches + needles (dry). DBH-only forms are those the authors recommend for tree- and forest-level predictions. Country-specific DBH and height ranges are not printed, so none are entered. Equations using crown length (19, 21) and the crown-biomass equations (23, 24, 33, 34, 43, 44) are not included.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
