# Korean pine stem biomass from D only (System 1, Table 4)

Stem biomass equation for Pinus koraiensis, China, from Dong et al. 2016. 114 trees, DBH 5.4–33.4 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Dong et al. 2016 (Eqs. (1) and Table 4):

> lnWs = a* + b* × lnD; Table 4, Korean pine, System 1 (D only): Stem | -2.4644 | 2.2884

In this library's units, ready to compute (stem biomass in kg):

```
Stem biomass = exp(-2.4644 + 2.2884 * ln(D))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: exp(-2.4644 + 2.2884 * ln(D)), with D in cm; output in kg.

## What it covers

- Output: Stem biomass, kg
- Taxon: Pinus koraiensis (species), family Pinaceae; conifer
- Where: Pure plantations, northeast China. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-korean-pine-sys1-stem/#where
- Biomes: temperate
- Stand: plantation
- Trees measured: 114. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-korean-pine-sys1-stem/#n_trees
- DBH range: 5.4–33.4 cm. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-korean-pine-sys1-stem/#dbh
- Height range: 5.4–16.2 m. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-korean-pine-sys1-stem/#height
- Method: seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) on log-transformed additive system, ln W = a + b ln D. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-korean-pine-sys1-stem/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-korean-pine-sys1-stem/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Eqs. (1) and Table 4):

> lnWs = a* + b* × lnD; Table 4, Korean pine, System 1 (D only): Stem | -2.4644 | 2.2884

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-korean-pine-sys1-stem/#equation

**Trees measured** (Section 2.2):

> a total of 114 Korean pine trees, 90 larch trees, and 85 Mongolian pine trees were destructively sampled

**Our note:** Korean pine plantations, System 1 (D only) of Table 4: ln W = a* + b* ln D, natural logarithm, coefficients as printed (a*, b*, c*). No correction factor is stated in the paper, none applied. n and D/H ranges from Table 2 (sample statistics of the fitted trees). Stem includes bark; roots exclude fine roots <5 mm. No R2 recorded (adjusted R2 only).

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |

| D = 8.2 | 10.5 | 10.5 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |
| D = 16.6 | 52.7 | 52.7 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |
| D = 27.8 | 171.5 | 171.5 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
