# Larch (Larix gmelinii) foliage biomass from D and H (System 2, Table 4)

Foliage biomass equation for Larix gmelinii, China, from Dong et al. 2016. 90 trees, DBH 7.6–35.7 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Dong et al. 2016 (Eqs. (2) and Table 4):

> lnWf = a* + b* × lnD + c* × lnH; Table 4, Larch, System 2 (D and H): Foliage | -2.2879 | 1.3369 | -0.0922

In this library's units, ready to compute (foliage biomass in kg):

```
Foliage biomass = exp(-2.2879 + 1.3369 * ln(D) - 0.0922 * ln(H))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: exp(-2.2879 + 1.3369 * ln(D) - 0.0922 * ln(H)), with D in cm, H in m; output in kg.

- Taxon: Larix gmelinii (species), family Pinaceae; conifer
- Where: Pure plantations, northeast China. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-larch-sys2-foliage/#where
- Biomes: temperate
- Stand: plantation
- Trees measured: 90. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-larch-sys2-foliage/#n_trees
- DBH range: 7.6–35.7 cm. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-larch-sys2-foliage/#dbh
- Height range: 8.3–27 m. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-larch-sys2-foliage/#height
- Method: seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) on log-transformed additive system, ln W = a + b ln D + c ln H. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-larch-sys2-foliage/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-larch-sys2-foliage/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Eqs. (2) and Table 4):

> lnWf = a* + b* × lnD + c* × lnH; Table 4, Larch, System 2 (D and H): Foliage | -2.2879 | 1.3369 | -0.0922

**Trees measured** (Section 2.2):

> a total of 114 Korean pine trees, 90 larch trees, and 85 Mongolian pine trees were destructively sampled

**Our note:** Larch (Larix gmelinii) plantations, System 2 (D and H) of Table 4: ln W = a* + b* ln D + c* ln H, natural logarithm, coefficients as printed (a*, b*, c*). No correction factor is stated in the paper, none applied. n and D/H ranges from Table 2 (sample statistics of the fitted trees). Stem includes bark; roots exclude fine roots <5 mm. No R2 recorded (adjusted R2 only).

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.
