# Mongolian pine (Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica) root biomass from D and H (System 2, Table 4)

Root biomass equation for Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica, China, from Dong et al. 2016. 85 trees, DBH 6–38.7 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Dong et al. 2016 (Eqs. (2) and Table 4):

> lnWr = a* + b* × lnD + c* × lnH; Table 4, Mongolian pine, System 2 (D and H): Root | -2.5406 | 1.9752 | -0.0606

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-mongolian-pine-sys2-root/#equation

In this library's units, ready to compute (root biomass in kg):

```
Root biomass = exp(-2.5406 + 1.9752 * ln(D) - 0.0606 * ln(H))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: exp(-2.5406 + 1.9752 * ln(D) - 0.0606 * ln(H)), with D in cm, H in m; output in kg.

- DBH range: 6–38.7 cm. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-mongolian-pine-sys2-root/#dbh
- Height range: 3.5–22.3 m. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-mongolian-pine-sys2-root/#height
- Method: seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) on log-transformed additive system, ln W = a + b ln D + c ln H. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2016-mongolian-pine-sys2-root/#method
- Verification: read in the original source

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Eqs. (2) and Table 4):

> lnWr = a* + b* × lnD + c* × lnH; Table 4, Mongolian pine, System 2 (D and H): Root | -2.5406 | 1.9752 | -0.0606

**Trees measured** (Section 2.2):

> a total of 114 Korean pine trees, 90 larch trees, and 85 Mongolian pine trees were destructively sampled

**Our note:** Mongolian pine (Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica) plantations, System 2 (D and H) of Table 4: ln W = a* + b* ln D + c* ln H, natural logarithm, coefficients as printed (a*, b*, c*). No correction factor is stated in the paper, none applied. n and D/H ranges from Table 2 (sample statistics of the fitted trees). Stem includes bark; roots exclude fine roots <5 mm. No R2 recorded (adjusted R2 only).

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| D = 19.1, H = 12.9 | 22.9 | 22.9 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |
