# Dahurian larch aboveground biomass from D and H (MS-3) (sum of components, Table 6)

Aboveground biomass equation for Larix gmelinii, China, from Dong et al. 2018. 138 trees, DBH 1.7–28.4 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Dong et al. 2018 (Eq. (14), additive constraints):

> Wa = Ws + Wb + Wf + εa; Wt = Wr + Ws + Wb + Wf + εt

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = exp(-3.7411 + 1.8314 * ln(D) + 1.0978 * ln(H)) + exp(-2.1509 + 2.9966 * ln(D) - 1.5016 * ln(H)) + exp(-2.5753 + 2.4388 * ln(D) - 1.1785 * ln(H))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: exp(-3.7411) * D^1.8314 * H^1.0978 + exp(-2.1509) * D^2.9966 * H^(-1.5016) + exp(-2.5753) * D^2.4388 * H^(-1.1785), with D in cm, H in m; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Eq. (14), additive constraints):

> Wa = Ws + Wb + Wf + εa; Wt = Wr + Ws + Wb + Wf + εt

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/dong-2018-larch-ms3-agb/#equation

**Trees measured** (Section 2.2):

> 138 Dahurian larch trees and 108 white birch trees were destructively sampled

**Our note:** Dahurian larch, MS-3: the paper defines this total as the sum of its component equations (Eq. 14 constraints), with coefficients of the component rows in Table 6; the expression is that sum, not a separately printed formula. Stem includes bark; roots exclude fine roots <5 mm.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
