# Dahurian larch stem biomass from D, H and crown width, system MS-4 (Table 7)

Stem biomass equation for Larix gmelinii, China, from Dong et al. 2018. 138 trees, DBH 1.7–28.4 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Dong et al. 2018 (Table 7, Dahurian larch, stem row; model form Eq. (18)):

> Ws = e^β20 · D^β21 · H^β22 · CW^β23; Dahurian larch | Stem | -3.8245 | 1.7097 | 1.2389 | 0.0467

In this library's units, ready to compute (stem biomass in kg):

```
Stem biomass = exp(-3.8245 + 1.7097 * ln(D) + 1.2389 * ln(H) + 0.0467 * ln(CD))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m); CD = Crown diameter (m).
The source's own form: exp(-3.8245) * D^1.7097 * H^1.2389 * CW^0.0467, with D in cm, H in m, CW in m; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 7, Dahurian larch, stem row; model form Eq. (18)):

> Ws = e^β20 · D^β21 · H^β22 · CW^β23; Dahurian larch | Stem | -3.8245 | 1.7097 | 1.2389 | 0.0467

**Trees measured** (Section 2.2):

> 138 Dahurian larch trees and 108 white birch trees were destructively sampled

**Our note:** Dahurian larch, MS-4 (Table 7): W = exp(b0) * D^b1 * H^b2 * CW^b3 where CW is crown width (m), mapped to canonical CD. Crown width range 0.3-2.9 m (Table 2). Stem includes bark; roots exclude fine roots <5 mm. No R2 recorded (adjusted R2 only).

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
