# Croton magdalenensis AGB, DBH and height (13-year restoration plantation)

Aboveground biomass equation for Croton magdalenensis, Colombia, from Giraldo-Salazar et al. 2025. 23 trees, DBH 6.85–32.45 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Giraldo-Salazar et al. 2025 (Table 7, equation 17):

> AGB = 0.015 × (D^2 × H)^1.059

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 1.043 * exp(-4.245 + 1.059*ln(D^2*H))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: 1.043 * exp(-4.245 + 1.059*ln(DBH^2*H)), with DBH in cm, H in m; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 7, equation 17):

> AGB = 0.015 × (D^2 × H)^1.059

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/giraldo-salazar-2025-croton/#equation

**Equation** (Table 7, equation 17 (linear expression)):

> ln(B) = −4.245 + 1.059 ln(D² × H)

**Correction factor** (Table 7, equation 17):

> e^(RSE²/2) = 1.043

**Trees measured** (Table 7 / Table 2):

> 23

**Our note:** Table 7 prints the linear form as ln(B), meaning AGB. Table 7 gives the final equation with the correction factor e^(RSE^2/2) folded into the coefficient a; here the published form is written from the linear expression in Table 7 with the printed correction factor applied, which agrees with the printed a. Dry mass in kg, D in cm, WD in g/cm3. Trees harvested 2022-2023 in 13-year-old plantations; AGB sums leaves, twigs, branches and trunk. Ranges are for the sampled trees (Table 2). RSE is as printed in Table 5/6.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 8, H = 8 | 11.1 | 11.1 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (linear expression with printed correction factor) |
| D = 15, H = 12 | 64.3 | 64.3 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (linear expression with printed correction factor) |
| D = 25, H = 16 | 257 | 257 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (linear expression with printed correction factor) |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
