# Bambusa procera plant aboveground biomass (culm + branches + leaves), D and H, two-predictor system (combination 6)

Aboveground biomass equation for Bambusa procera, Vietnam, from Huy et al. 2019. 83 trees, DBH 3.6–9.5 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Huy et al. 2019 (Table 4 (forms in Eqs. 16-19)):

> AGB = Bcu + Bbr + Ble = a1 × (D2H)b1 + a2 × (D2H)b2 + a3 × Db3 (parameters Bcu = a1 × (D2H)b1: a1 0.02269 b1 0.90703; Bbr = a2 × (D2H)b2: a2 0.02015 b2 0.72251; Ble = a3 × Db3: a3 0.03420 b3 1.67330)

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.02269 * (D^2 * H)^0.90703 + 0.02015 * (D^2 * H)^0.72251 + 0.03420 * D^1.67330
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: 0.02269 * (D^2 * H)^0.90703 + 0.02015 * (D^2 * H)^0.72251 + 0.03420 * D^1.67330, with D in cm, H in m; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 4 (forms in Eqs.

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/huy-2019-dh-agb/#equation

**Trees measured** (Section 2.3):

> A total of 83 bamboo culms covering the full range of sizes were destructively sampled with D ranging from 3.6–9.5 cm, with H of 6.1–25.4 m

**Our note:** One bamboo culm (plant) per record; D is culm diameter at breast height. Biomass in kg dry mass per plant. Component equations are fitted simultaneously (SUR) so the AGB equation is the sum of the three components. Parameters as printed in Table 4; the paper reports adjusted R2 only, so r2 is omitted.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 5, H = 12 | 5.75 | 5.75 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |
| D = 8, H = 20 | 19.6 | 19.6 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
