# Gray alder, European Russia pooled: aboveground biomass from D (Eq. 5)

Aboveground biomass equation for Alnus incana, Russia, from Karaban et al. 2023. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Karaban et al. 2023 (Eq. (5), p. 46):

> ln Pa = –2,5395 + 2,4527 ln D; adjR2 = 0,939, SE = 0,26.

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = exp(-2.5395 + 2.4527 * ln(D))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: exp(-2.5395 + 2.4527 * ln(D)), with D in cm; output in kg.

## What it covers

- Output: Aboveground biomass, kg
- Taxon: Alnus incana (species), family Betulaceae; broadleaf
- Where: European Russia: northern taiga (Arkhangelsk) plus southern taiga and coniferous-broadleaved subzones. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/karaban-2023-agb-d-pooled/#where
- Biomes: boreal, temperate
- Stand: mixed
- Residual SE: 0.26. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/karaban-2023-agb-d-pooled/#rse
- Method: OLS regression on natural logarithms of the pooled northern and southern data. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/karaban-2023-agb-d-pooled/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/karaban-2023-agb-d-pooled/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Eq. (5), p. 46):

> ln Pa = –2,5395 + 2,4527 ln D; adjR2 = 0,939, SE = 0,26.

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/karaban-2023-agb-d-pooled/#equation

**Our note:** Generalised model recommended by the authors for aboveground biomass of gray alder in European Russia, combining the new northern taiga data with southern data (Smirnov 1971; Kazimirov et al. 1978; Miezite et al. 2011). Sample size and DBH range of the pooled set are not printed. Natural log; no separate correction factor stated. Reports adjusted R2 = 0.939.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
