# D. hamiltonii culm height from diameter at breast height (H-D model, Table 9)

Height equation for Dendrocalamus hamiltonii, India, from Kaushal et al. 2022. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Kaushal et al. 2022 (Methods, H-D relationship):

> Allometric equation of the form H = aDb + e, was used to develop the relationship between height (H) with the diameter at breast height

In this library's units, ready to compute (height in m):

```
Height = 2.3 * D^0.92
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: 2.3 * D^0.92, with D in cm; output in m.

## What it covers

- Output: Height, m
- Taxon: Dendrocalamus hamiltonii (species), family Poaceae; bamboo
- Where: Western Himalayan foothills, Uttarakhand (Dehradun and Pantnagar). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/kaushal-2022-hamiltonii-hd/#where
- Biomes: subtropical
- Stand: plantation
- Method: Weighted maximum-likelihood nonlinear power model H = aD^b (nlme), fitted on 80% of the data. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/kaushal-2022-hamiltonii-hd/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/kaushal-2022-hamiltonii-hd/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Methods, H-D relationship):

> Allometric equation of the form H = aDb + e, was used to develop the relationship between height (H) with the diameter at breast height

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/kaushal-2022-hamiltonii-hd/#equation

**Equation** (Table 9 (Weight variable, a, b, Adj.R2)):

> D. hamiltonii 1/D0.38 2.30 ± 0.30 0.92 ± 0.06 0.70

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/kaushal-2022-hamiltonii-hd/#quote-expression

**Units** (Table 3 headings):

> Culm diameter (cm) Culm height (m)

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/kaushal-2022-hamiltonii-hd/#quote-published-units

**Our note:** Culm-level height model for a bamboo, intended by the authors to fill missing culm heights. D is culm diameter at breast height (cm), H culm height (m); units taken from Table 3 headings, not restated beside the equation. Fitted on 80% of the sample, so n is not stored; Adj. R² is printed but not stored. The paper's biomass models (Tables 5 and 7) predict fresh weight, not dry biomass, and were not added.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 6 | 12 | 12 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the Table 9 coefficients |
