# Mopane height from D (power H-D model)

Height equation for Colophospermum mopane, Mozambique, from Lisboa et al. 2025. DBH 5–109 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Lisboa et al. 2025 (Table 8, p. 13):

> Power 1.225 ± 0.157 (0.917 to 1.533) 0.616 ± 0.042 (0.533 to 0.699)

In this library's units, ready to compute (height in m):

```
Height = 1.3 + 1.225 * D^0.616
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: 1.3 + 1.225 * D^0.616, with D in cm; output in m.

## What it covers

- Output: Height, m
- Taxon: Colophospermum mopane (species), family Fabaceae; broadleaf
- Where: Mabalane (Gaza) and Tambara (Manica) districts, mopane woodland. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lisboa-2025-hd-power/#where
- Biomes: tropical, dryland
- Stand: natural
- DBH range: 5–109 cm. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lisboa-2025-hd-power/#dbh
- Height range: 3.8–21.6 m. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lisboa-2025-hd-power/#height
- Method: nonlinear regression, H(D) = 1.3 + a D^b. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lisboa-2025-hd-power/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-01. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lisboa-2025-hd-power/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 8, p. 13):

> Power 1.225 ± 0.157 (0.917 to 1.533) 0.616 ± 0.042 (0.533 to 0.699)

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lisboa-2025-hd-power/#equation

**Equation** (Table 2, model 5 Power, p. 5):

> H(D) = 1.3 + aDb+ ε

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lisboa-2025-hd-power/#quote-expression

**Largest DBH** (Table 3, row ID 1 (this study), p. 7):

> D range (cm) 5–109

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lisboa-2025-hd-power/#quote-fit-dbh-max-cm

**h max m** (Table 4 (Mabalane and Tambara rows; min and max combined), p. 8):

> Total tree height (m) 4.0 9.3 21.6 52 / 3.8 8.3 14.6 32

**Our note:** Best 2-parameter height-diameter model per the authors (highest Akaike weight); the 3-parameter models are left out because their parameters are not significant. The fixed 1.3 m offset comes from the model form in Table 2; Table 8 labels the coefficients a and b. n is not restated for this fit, so it is omitted. n = 120 sampled trees (Methods p. 3, Table 3), but Table 5 heads the total-AGB column 'n = 84', so the fitted n may be 84.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 20 | 9.05 | 9.05 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form |
