# Avicennia officinalis + Sonneratia apetala aboveground biomass, a x^b of rho * DBH (Table 5)

Aboveground biomass equation for Avicennia officinalis and Sonneratia apetala, Myanmar (Burma), from Lwin et al. 2026. 30 trees, DBH 5–20 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

Fitted on Avicennia officinalis, Sonneratia apetala.

## Equation

As printed in Lwin et al. 2026 (Table 5):

> ρDBH (g cm−3 cm) 30 0.483 (±0.0818) 2.419 (±0.121) 0.934*

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lwin-2026-mixed-rhod/#equation

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.483 * (rho * D)^2.419
```

Inputs: rho = Wood density (oven-dry mass / green volume) (g/cm³); D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: 0.483 * (rho * DBH)^2.419, with DBH in cm, rho in g/cm3; output in kg.

## What it covers

- Output: Aboveground biomass, kg
- Taxon: Avicennia officinalis and Sonneratia apetala (mixed species); mangrove
- Where: Letkhokkon delta mangrove, Myanmar. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lwin-2026-mixed-rhod/#where
- Biomes: tropical, mangrove
- Stand: natural
- Trees measured: 30. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lwin-2026-mixed-rhod/#n_trees
- DBH range: 5–20 cm. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lwin-2026-mixed-rhod/#dbh
- R²: 0.934. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lwin-2026-mixed-rhod/#r2
- Method: Power function y = a x^b fitted in SPSS Curve Estimation (OLS on log-transformed variables, then back-transformed). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/lwin-2026-mixed-rhod/#method

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 5):

> ρDBH (g cm−3 cm) 30 0.483 (±0.0818) 2.419 (±0.121) 0.934*

**Trees measured** (Biomass measurement section):

> Thirty sample trees of Avicennia officinalis (Ao) and Sonneratia apetala (Sa) were harvested

**Smallest DBH** (Table 6, "This study" mixed-species row (n, DBH range (cm) columns)):

> Letkhokkon, Myanmar Mixed 30 5 20 AGB=0.0698(ρDBH2H)0.969 0.95

**Our note:** Power-law fit; the paper states coefficients are back-transformed from the log-log OLS fit and prints no correction factor, so none is applied. Site-level model for the Letkhokkon delta mangrove (Ayeyarwady delta region), Myanmar. Wood density rho is per-tree basic density measured on trunk discs (species means: 0.557 g/cm3 Ao, 0.471 g/cm3 Sa). Mixed-species model for the two dominant species pooled (n = 30); the pooled DBH range 5–20 cm is printed in Table 6 (Ao 5.0–13.0 cm, Sa 5.1–20.0 cm per Table 2); H range of the pooled sample is 4.6–13.6 m per Table 2 but not printed as one range, so left out. The paper reports ρDBH2H as the best-fit mixed model; all six Table 5 forms are included. AGB is leaf + branch + stem (aboveground, foliage included).

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 8, rho = 0.5 | 13.8 | 13.8 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the Table 5 coefficients |
| D = 15, rho = 0.5 | 63.2 | 63.2 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the Table 5 coefficients |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
