# Ximenia americana, total aerial dry biomass from ground-level diameter and height (Table 2)

Aboveground biomass equation for Ximenia americana, Brazil, from Mendonça et al. 2013. 15 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Mendonça et al. 2013 (Table 2, p. 360):

> MS = -2,81201+(0,0817217*DH²)

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = -2.81201 + 0.0817217 * DRC * H^2
```

Inputs: DRC = Root collar / stem base diameter (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: -2.81201 + 0.0817217 * DAS * H^2, with DAS in cm, H in m; output in kg.

- R²: 0.955. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/mendonca-2013-xymenia-americana/#r2
- Method: regression; model chosen among literature models and Backward/Forward stepwise fits by residual plots, S%, t test and R2. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/mendonca-2013-xymenia-americana/#method

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 2, p. 360):

> MS = -2,81201+(0,0817217*DH²)

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/mendonca-2013-xymenia-americana/#equation

**Trees measured** (Ajuste das equações de regressão, p. 357):

> amostrados 15 indivíduos, sendo três para cada classe de diâmetro, com exceção da espécie Chamaecrista belemii, em que foram amostrados 30 indivíduos

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/mendonca-2013-xymenia-americana/#quote-fit-n-trees

**R²** (Table 2, p. 360):

> 95,5 (R²)

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/mendonca-2013-xymenia-americana/#quote-fit-r2

**Our note:** Table 2 prints R2 as a percentage. D is diameter at ground level (DAS, 'diâmetro ao nível do solo', cm), mapped to DRC; H is total height in m; MS is dry mass in kg (Table 2 footnote). 'DH' and 'DH2' are read as D*H and D*H^2, and 'D2H' as D^2*H (variables listed on p. 358 as DAS*H, DAS*H2, DAS2*H). Total aerial dry biomass (leaves, branches, trunk). Diameter range of the sampled trees printed as 4 a 12 cm (ground-level diameter, so not entered as a DBH range): use inside that range. Equations were also fitted by diameter class for all species pooled (Table 3); those are not included here.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| DRC = 5, H = 2 | -1.18 | -1.18 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |
| DRC = 8, H = 3 | 3.07 | 3.07 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |
| DRC = 11, H = 4 | 11.6 | 11.6 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form (coefficients as printed) |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
