# Natural larch leaf (foliage) biomass from dbh (Table 5, with CF)

Foliage biomass equation for Larix gmelinii, China, from Meng et al. 2019. 58 trees, DBH 3.2–52 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Meng et al. 2019 (Table 5, Leaf row):

> Leaf lnWlf = −3.080 + 1.833ln(dbh); CF 1.038

In this library's units, ready to compute (foliage biomass in kg):

```
Foliage biomass = 1.038 * exp(-3.080 + 1.833 * ln(D))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: 1.038 * exp(-3.080 + 1.833 * ln(dbh)), with dbh in cm; output in kg.

- Biomes: boreal, montane
- Stand: natural
- Trees measured: 58. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/meng-2019-foliage/#n_trees
- DBH range: 3.2–52 cm. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/meng-2019-foliage/#dbh
- Height range: 4.91–27.72 m. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/meng-2019-foliage/#height
- Correction factor: 1.038 (applied). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/meng-2019-foliage/#cf
- Method: seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) on log-transformed equations, additive system. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/meng-2019-foliage/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/meng-2019-foliage/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 5, Leaf row):

> Leaf lnWlf = −3.080 + 1.833ln(dbh); CF 1.038

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/meng-2019-foliage/#equation

**Trees measured** (Section 2.2):

> A total of 58 trees were randomly selected

**Our note:** Equations reported in Table 5 (best additive system, log scale: ln W = a + b ln x); correction factor CF from Table 5 applied multiplicatively to exp(ln W) (Section 2.6 describes a multiplicative correction factor; the printed Eq. 9 was not readable in the HTML copy, so the multiplicative use is the paper's own description). ln is the natural logarithm. n and ranges from Table 1 / Section 2.2. Wood and bark are separate component equations in the paper (not added individually); they are summed inside the aboveground equation. The Discussion and Conclusions note that the CFs are small (<1.06) and "can be ignored", and that applying a CF breaks the additivity of the component equations; the CF is applied here because the paper prints it per equation in Table 5 and describes it as a multiplicative correction (Section 2.6).

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.
