# Eucalyptus camaldulensis leaf biomass from D²H

Foliage biomass equation for Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Thailand, from Ounban et al. 2016. 94 trees, DBH 0.5–19.8 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Ounban et al. 2016 (Table 4):

> Wl = 0.013(D2H)0.721

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/ounban-2016-euca-leaf-d2h/#equation

In this library's units, ready to compute (foliage biomass in kg):

```
Foliage biomass = 0.013 * (D^2*H)^0.721
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: 0.013 * (D^2*H)^0.721, with D in cm, H in m; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 4):

> Wl = 0.013(D2H)0.721

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/ounban-2016-euca-leaf-d2h/#equation

**Trees measured** (Methods, Compilation of biomass allometric equations):

> 13 datasets with a total of 94 trees were chosen for E. camaldulensis

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/ounban-2016-euca-leaf-d2h/#quote-fit-n-trees

**Smallest DBH** (Methods, Compilation of biomass allometric equations):

> The ranges in the diameters and heights of trees in the dataset were 4.4–41.2 cm and 5.5–31.0 m for T. grandis, and 0.5–19.8 and 1.7–26.0 m for E. camaldulensis

**method** (Methods, Reconstruction of biomass allometric equations):

> Linear regressions of untransformed data were used in the present study because log transformed data introduced a systematic bias

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/ounban-2016-euca-leaf-d2h/#quote-fit-method

**Note** (Results and discussion, Construction of general allometric equations, p. 51):

> general allometric equations for branches and leaves were excluded in the present study—only the stem and total aboveground biomass estimations were reported

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/ounban-2016-euca-leaf-d2h/#quote-notes

**Our note:** General (multi-site) equation fitted on pooled data compiled from published Thai plantation studies (theses, proceedings, reports), not on new felled trees; validated by the authors on independent harvests. D in cm, H in m, output kg dry weight per tree. AGB is the sum of stem, branches and leaves. Component symbol in the paper: Wl. The paper labels Wb as bark in its tables but as branches in the text, so no branch or bark model is entered. Caution: although Tables 3 and 4 print this leaf model, the authors state that the slope of the branch and leaf components differed significantly among spacings (ANCOVA) and that "general allometric equations for branches and leaves were excluded in the present study—only the stem and total aboveground biomass estimations were reported" (Results and discussion, Construction of general allometric equations).

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 8, H = 10 | 1.37 | 1.37 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form |
| D = 15, H = 18 | 5.19 | 5.19 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
