# Polylepis incana AGB from DBH (Tabla 4, power form)

Aboveground biomass equation for Polylepis incana, Peru, from Ramírez Apolinario & Peláez Peláez 2018. 15 trees, DBH 5–20 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Ramírez Apolinario & Peláez Peláez 2018 (Tabla 4, p. 112 (exponent printed as superscript)):

> Polylepis incana M = 0,118 DAP2.0078

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.118 * D^2.0078
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: 0.118 * DAP^2.0078, with DAP in cm; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Tabla 4, p. 112 (exponent printed as superscript)):

> Polylepis incana M = 0,118 DAP2.0078

**R²** (Tabla 3, p. 112 (LNB, A, N, r, r², r² corregido, error tipo residual)):

> Polylepis incana -2,137 2,0078 15 0,968 0,936 0,929 0,043

**Trees measured** (Resumen, p. 105):

**Smallest DBH** (Resumen, p. 105):

> La medida del DAP de los árboles de Polylepis seleccionados están dentro del rango que va desde 5 cm a 20cm.

**Our note:** M is aboveground biomass in kg (Tabla 1 header 'M (Kg)'). Trees were air-dried in shade to constant weight (about 8 weeks), not oven-dried, so 'dry' mass may be slightly high. The linear form in Tabla 4 prints 'Ln(M) = -2,371 + 2,0078Ln(DAP)', which conflicts with Tabla 3 (LNB = -2,137) and with 0,118 = exp(-2,137); the power form is used here. The harvested trees in Tabla 1 span DAP 6,0–18,0 cm; 5–20 cm is the range the authors state. No log-bias correction factor applied by the authors. Same data republished in Rev. Tayacaja 1(1):17-27 (2018).

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 11.2 | 15.1 | 15.1 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published power form; Tabla 1 tree 1 (DAP 11,2 cm) weighed 16,5 kg |
| D = 18 | 39.1 | 39.1 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published power form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
