# Polylepis sericea AGB from DBH (Tabla 4, power form)

Aboveground biomass equation for Polylepis sericea, Peru, from Ramírez Apolinario & Peláez Peláez 2018. 15 trees, DBH 5–20 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Ramírez Apolinario & Peláez Peláez 2018 (Tabla 4, p. 112 (species name misspelt in the table; exponent printed as superscript)):

> Ploylepis sericea M = 0.1135 DAP2.025

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.1135 * D^2.025
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: 0.1135 * DAP^2.025, with DAP in cm; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Tabla 4, p. 112 (species name misspelt in the table; exponent printed as superscript)):

**R²** (Tabla 3, p. 112):

**Smallest DBH** (Resumen, p. 105):

> La medida del DAP de los árboles de Polylepis seleccionados están dentro del rango que va desde 5 cm a 20cm.

**Our note:** M is aboveground biomass in kg. Trees were air-dried in shade to constant weight, not oven-dried. Harvested trees in Tabla 2 span DAP 5,8–18,0 cm. No log-bias correction factor applied by the authors.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 12 | 17.4 | 17.4 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published power form; Tabla 2 tree 2 (DAP 12,0 cm) weighed 17,0 kg |
| D = 18 | 39.5 | 39.5 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published power form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
