# Buddleja coriacea (colle) AGB per stem from diameter at 30 cm and height (sum of SUR components)

Aboveground biomass equation for Buddleja coriacea, Ecuador, from Riofrío et al. 2013. 13 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Riofrío et al. 2013 (Tabla 4, Colle, Ramas gruesas):

> W rg = 0,01489*d2 *Ht

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.025016 * D30^2 * H
```

Inputs: D30 = Stem diameter at 30 cm (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: 0.01489*d^2*Ht + 0.006169*d^2*Ht + 0.003957*d^2*Ht, with d in cm, Ht in m; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Tabla 4, Colle, Ramas gruesas):

**Trees measured** (Tabla 1 (* = diameter at 30 cm above ground)):

> Colle 13 11,1* 2,2 8,6 15,6 4,2 0,6 3,1 5,1

**Our note:** Multi-stemmed shrub (3–7 stems from the base): each sampled stem was treated as one individual, so the model gives biomass per stem; sum over stems for a plant. D30 = stem diameter 30 cm above ground (fitted range 8,6–15,6 cm). Total is the sum of the three Tabla 4 component equations.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D30 = 11.1, H = 4.2 | 12.9 | 12.9 | Computed from the printed form: computed at the sample means (observed mean Wt 13,8 kg, Tabla 1) |
| D30 = 15, H = 5 | 28.1 | 28.1 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the sum of published components |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
