# Quercus laurina, branch biomass (Eq. 4, D²H)

Branch biomass equation for Quercus laurina Humb. & Bonpl., Mexico, from Ruiz-Aquino et al. 2014. 16 trees, DBH 6–31 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Ruiz-Aquino et al. 2014 (Table 6):

> y = e^[−β0+β1 ln(DN²×AT)] (4); β0 = 7,3582, β1 = 1,1962

In this library's units, ready to compute (branch biomass in kg):

```
Branch biomass = exp(-7.3582 + 1.1962 * ln(D^2 * H))
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: exp(-7.3582 + 1.1962 * ln(DN^2 * AT)), with DN in cm, AT in m; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 6):

> y = e^[−β0+β1 ln(DN²×AT)] (4); β0 = 7,3582, β1 = 1,1962

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/ruiz-aquino-2014-laurina-branch/#equation

**Trees measured** (Resumen / Table 2):

> Se muestrearon 16 árboles por cada especie

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/ruiz-aquino-2014-laurina-branch/#quote-fit-n-trees

**Our note:** The paper prints the model as e^[−β0 + β1 ln(DN² × AT)] with the tabulated β0 positive; applied with the minus sign (it also matches the paper's biomass expansion factor Eq. 12). Dry mass at 100 °C; stem includes bark. Adjusted R2 (not stored): 0.9864.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 13.5, H = 14.4 | 7.84 | 7.84 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (Tables 4-7 coefficients, minus sign on β0) |
| D = 23.5, H = 20.7 | 45.6 | 45.6 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form (Tables 4-7 coefficients, minus sign on β0) |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
