# Nine caatinga species, DBH x height

Aboveground biomass equation for Nine caatinga species, all but Cereus jamacaru, Brazil, from Sampaio & Silva 2005. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Sampaio & Silva 2005 (Table 2, p. 938):

> All but C. jamacaru: 0.0612*(DBH*H)1.5811  R2 0.9478

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/sampaio-2005-all-9-dbh-h/#equation

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.0612 * (D * H)^1.5811
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: 0.0612 * (DBH * H)^1.5811, with DBH in cm, H in m; output in kg.

## What it covers

- Output: Aboveground biomass, kg
- Taxon: Nine caatinga species, all but Cereus jamacaru (mixed species); mixed
- Where: Santaluz (Bahia) and Petrolina (Pernambuco), Depressão Sertaneja, Brazilian semiarid. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/sampaio-2005-all-9-dbh-h/#where
- Biomes: tropical, dryland
- Stand: natural
- R²: 0.9478. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/sampaio-2005-all-9-dbh-h/#r2
- Method: power equation B = a*(x*H)^b (oven-dry aboveground biomass, kg). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/sampaio-2005-all-9-dbh-h/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/sampaio-2005-all-9-dbh-h/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 2, p. 938):

> All but C. jamacaru: 0.0612*(DBH*H)1.5811  R2 0.9478

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/sampaio-2005-all-9-dbh-h/#equation

**R²** (Table 2, p. 938):

> R2 0.9478

**Our note:** Table 2 prints each equation as a*DGL^b or a*DBH^b with the exponent as superscript (flattened here with ^). Biomass is oven-dry aboveground plant biomass in kg (Table 2 title), diameters in cm. Wood dried at 60 C. Plants were cut at the base and the stump was included in the weighed biomass. Perimeters were converted to diameters assuming a circular shape; for branching below measuring height, branch areas were summed into one equivalent diameter. DGL is stem diameter at ground level, mapped to DRC. Group equation; n not stated for the group and left out. H is total plant height (m), including the stump.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 5, H = 4 | 6.98 | 6.98 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |
| D = 15, H = 7 | 96 | 96 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
