# Large caatinga species (the six listed after the three small ones), ground-level diameter

Aboveground biomass equation for Large caatinga species (the six listed after the three small ones), Brazil, from Sampaio & Silva 2005. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Sampaio & Silva 2005 (Table 2, p. 938):

> Large species (next 6): 0.0871*DGL2.3366  R2 0.9505

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.0871 * DRC^2.3366
```

Inputs: DRC = Root collar / stem base diameter (cm).
The source's own form: 0.0871 * DGL^2.3366, with DGL in cm; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 2, p. 938):

> Large species (next 6): 0.0871*DGL2.3366  R2 0.9505

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/sampaio-2005-large-6-dgl/#equation

**R²** (Table 2, p. 938):

> R2 0.9505

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/sampaio-2005-large-6-dgl/#quote-fit-r2

**Our note:** Table 2 prints each equation as a*DGL^b or a*DBH^b with the exponent as superscript (flattened here with ^). Biomass is oven-dry aboveground plant biomass in kg (Table 2 title), diameters in cm. Wood dried at 60 C. Plants were cut at the base and the stump was included in the weighed biomass. Perimeters were converted to diameters assuming a circular shape; for branching below measuring height, branch areas were summed into one equivalent diameter. DGL is stem diameter at ground level, mapped to DRC. Group equation; n not stated for the group and left out.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| DRC = 5 | 3.74 | 3.74 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |
| DRC = 15 | 48.8 | 48.8 | Computed from the printed form: hand-computed from the published form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
