# Parque Cerrado, total aboveground biomass, independent fit (Table 2)

Aboveground biomass equation for Parque Cerrado tree species (mixed), Brazil, from Santana et al. 2021. 97 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Santana et al. 2021 (Table 2, p. 712):

> AGB = 0.21220 * DAP^2.01655 * Ht^0.18081

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.21220 * D^2.01655 * H^0.18081
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: 0.21220 * DAP^2.01655 * Ht^0.18081, with DAP in cm, Ht in m; output in kg.

## What it covers

- Output: Aboveground biomass, kg
- Taxon: Parque Cerrado tree species (mixed) (mixed species); mixed
- Where: Northwest Goiás, Parque Cerrado (Cerrado biome). Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/santana-2021-agb-independent/#where
- Biomes: tropical, dryland
- Stand: natural
- Trees measured: 97. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/santana-2021-agb-independent/#n_trees
- Method: nonlinear least squares (Schumacher-Hall form), independent fit. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/santana-2021-agb-independent/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/santana-2021-agb-independent/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 2, p. 712):

> AGB = 0.21220 * DAP^2.01655 * Ht^0.18081

**Trees measured** (2.1 Caracterização da área e coleta de dados, p. 709):

> 97 indivíduos presentes em dez parcelas de 10 metros x 10 metros

**Our note:** Total aboveground biomass includes stem with bark, branches and leaves. Equation printed with DAP and Ht as variables; units are not stated beside the model and are read as DAP in cm and Ht in m (the paper gives the DAP >= 5 cm inclusion criterion and biomass in kg); magnitudes are consistent. Adjusted R2 (not R2) is printed, so fit.r2 is left out. The paper reports no DAP or height range of the fitted trees (only the DAP >= 5 cm inclusion criterion), so none is given. Dry biomass from 97 destructively sampled trees in ten 10 m x 10 m plots.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
