# Lonchocarpus fruticosa aboveground biomass, M1

Aboveground biomass equation (without leaves) for Lonchocarpus fruticosa, Ethiopia, from Tena et al. 2026. 12 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

**Not fully checked:** Foliage coverage is inconsistent: §2.3 (p. 54) sums stump, stem and branches, whereas §2.5 says leaves were determined when measuring total aboveground biomass. This record follows the explicit dry-mass sum and excludes foliage; confirm foliage coverage before treating the prediction as complete aboveground biomass or adding a separate foliage estimate.

## Equation

As printed in Tena et al. 2026 (Methods §2.6, p. 54 (PDF p. 4)):

> ln(B) = ln(β0) + β1ln(DBH) + Ɛ M1

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass, without leaves in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass, without leaves = exp(-2.362 + 2.358 * ln(D)) * 1.012
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: exp(-2.362 + 2.358 * ln(DBH)) * 1.012, with DBH in cm; output in kg.

This total leaves out leaves (foliage), as the source defines it.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

**Our note:** The table coefficient is back-transformed and multiplied once by the printed correction factor. DBH is measured at 1.3 m. Table 1 describes R² as adjusted. The authors selected M1 for this species. The intercept's parenthesized standard error is malformed in print and is not used. The paper does not describe a held-out validation subset.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 20 | 111 | 111 | Computed from the printed form: Calculated from the transcribed corrected form; the species-specific fitted diameter range is not reported. |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
