# Syzygium guineense aboveground biomass, M2

Aboveground biomass equation (without leaves) for Syzygium guineense, Ethiopia, from Tena et al. 2026. 9 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

**Not fully checked:** Foliage coverage is inconsistent: §2.3 (p. 54) sums stump, stem and branches, whereas §2.5 says leaves were determined when measuring total aboveground biomass. This record follows the explicit dry-mass sum and excludes foliage; confirm foliage coverage before treating the prediction as complete aboveground biomass or adding a separate foliage estimate.

## Equation

As printed in Tena et al. 2026 (Methods §2.6, p. 54 (PDF p. 4)):

> ln(B) = ln(β0) + β1ln(DBH) + β2ln(H) + Ɛ M2

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/tena-2026-syzygium-guineense-m2/#equation

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass, without leaves in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass, without leaves = exp(-4.122 + 1.051 * ln(D) + 2.664 * ln(H)) * 1.013
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm); H = Total tree height (m).
The source's own form: exp(-4.122 + 1.051 * ln(DBH) + 2.664 * ln(H)) * 1.013, with DBH in cm, H in m; output in kg.

This total leaves out leaves (foliage), as the source defines it.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

**Our note:** The table coefficient is back-transformed and multiplied once by the printed correction factor. DBH is measured at 1.3 m; H is total tree height. Table 1 describes R² as adjusted. The authors recommend the height-integrated M2 for this species. Table 1 spells the genus Syzigium; the text uses Syzygium. The paper does not describe a held-out validation subset.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 20, H = 10 | 177 | 177 | Computed from the printed form: Calculated from the transcribed corrected form; the species-specific fitted diameter and height ranges are not reported. |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
