# Juniperus procera AGB from DBH (M17)

Aboveground biomass equation for Juniperus procera, Ethiopia, from Tetemke et al. 2019. 23 trees, DBH 4.2–45.2 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Tetemke et al. 2019 (Table 4 (a, b, adj-R2, rRMSE, rBias, AIC)):

> M17 Juniperus procera 23 AGB = a × DBHb 0.161 2.199 0.966 74.1 −10.7 5.6

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.161 * D^2.199
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: 0.161 * DBH^2.199, with DBH in cm; output in kg.

## What it covers

- Output: Aboveground biomass, kg
- Taxon: Juniperus procera (species), family Cupressaceae; conifer
- Where: Desa'a dry Afromontane forest, Tigray. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/tetemke-2019-m17-juniperus-dbh/#where
- Biomes: montane, dryland
- Stand: natural
- Trees measured: 23. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/tetemke-2019-m17-juniperus-dbh/#n_trees
- DBH range: 4.2–45.2 cm. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/tetemke-2019-m17-juniperus-dbh/#dbh
- Method: Power function fitted on ln-transformed data. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/tetemke-2019-m17-juniperus-dbh/#method
- Verification: read in the original source
- Last checked: 2026-11-02. Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/tetemke-2019-m17-juniperus-dbh/#checked_at

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 4 (a, b, adj-R2, rRMSE, rBias, AIC)):

> M17 Juniperus procera 23 AGB = a × DBHb 0.161 2.199 0.966 74.1 −10.7 5.6

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/tetemke-2019-m17-juniperus-dbh/#equation

**Smallest DBH** (Table 1 (n, DSH mean and range, DBH mean and range)):

> Juniperus procera 23 21.2 5.2–51.0 18.1 4.2–45.2

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/tetemke-2019-m17-juniperus-dbh/#quote-fit-dbh-min-cm

**Our note:** Best species-specific model for Juniperus procera with a single diameter predictor. Adjusted R2 0.966. The fits were done on ln-transformed data and the paper says predictions were back-transformed with a correction factor (CF from RSE) for its error statistics, but it does not print the CF or say whether the tabulated a already includes it; no cf is entered. Adjusted R2 is given in the notes, not fit.r2, because it is adjusted.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D = 10 | 25.5 | 25.5 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form |
| D = 25 | 191 | 191 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
