# Desa'a multispecies AGB from stump diameter DSH (M9)

Aboveground biomass equation for 10 dominant species of Desa'a forest, Ethiopia, from Tetemke et al. 2019. 86 trees. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Tetemke et al. 2019 (Table 3 (a, b, adj-R2, rRMSE, rBias, AIC)):

> M9 AGB = a × DSHb 0.170 2.128 0.941 71.2 2.4 55.9

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.17 * D30^2.128
```

Inputs: D30 = Stem diameter at 30 cm (cm).
The source's own form: 0.17 * DSH^2.128, with DSH in cm; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 3 (a, b, adj-R2, rRMSE, rBias, AIC)):

> M9 AGB = a × DSHb 0.170 2.128 0.941 71.2 2.4 55.9

**Our note:** DSH is the diameter at stump height, 0.3 m above ground, mapped to D30. Recommended by the authors for simplicity with M1. Multi-stem trees combine stems as in the paper (Eq. 1). Adjusted R2 0.941. The fits were done on ln-transformed data and the paper says predictions were back-transformed with a correction factor (CF from RSE) for its error statistics, but it does not print the CF or say whether the tabulated a already includes it; no cf is entered. Adjusted R2 is given in the notes, not fit.r2, because it is adjusted.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| D30 = 10 | 22.8 | 22.8 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form |
| D30 = 25 | 160 | 160 | Computed from the printed form: computed from the published form |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
