# Pinus radiata total tree dry weight from DBHOB (Eq. 6, Table 4)

Aboveground biomass equation for Pinus radiata, Australia, from Wang et al. 2017. 239 trees, DBH 18–70.1 cm. Listed on Tree Allometrics, a free library of tree allometric equations, each quoted from the source that published it.

## Equation

As printed in Wang et al. 2017 (Table 4, dry weight columns):

> Equation (6), Ŷprod = β10 D^β11, Ŷres = β20 D^β21; dry weight β10 0.2761, β11 2.0817, β20 0.0386, β21 2.1674

In this library's units, ready to compute (aboveground biomass in kg):

```
Aboveground biomass = 0.2761 * D^2.0817 + 0.0386 * D^2.1674
```

Inputs: D = Diameter at breast height (1.3 m) (cm).
The source's own form: 0.2761 * DBHOB^2.0817 + 0.0386 * DBHOB^2.1674, with DBHOB in cm; output in kg.

A missing fit statistic is one the source doesn't state, or that we haven't recorded; it is never estimated. Outside the stated DBH range or region, the equation is an extrapolation.

## The facts, in the source's words

**Equation** (Table 4, dry weight columns):

> Equation (6), Ŷprod = β10 D^β11, Ŷres = β20 D^β21; dry weight β10 0.2761, β11 2.0817, β20 0.0386, β21 2.1674

**Equation** (Table 4 caption):

> the predicted value of total tree biomass is equal to the sum of the predicted values of its components

Cite: https://treeallometry.org/equations/wang-2017-dry-agb-d/#quote-expression

**Trees measured** (Section 2.3):

> a total of 239 trees, with DBHOB ranging from 18.0 to 70.1 cm and total tree height from 18.1 to 37.3 m, were destructively sampled

**Our note:** Dry-weight system with DBHOB as the only predictor; R2 for total tree 0.93. Total tree dry weight is the sum of the product (stem sawlog and pulpwood) and residue (stump, branches with needles, waste) equations, so it is aboveground including stump and foliage. DBHOB is diameter at breast height over bark at 1.3 m, in cm; weights in kg (dry). Rotation-age stands, 28 to 42 years, unthinned and thinned pooled. Product and residue equations are not added individually, nor the fresh-weight, stand-type dummy (Equations 9 and 10) or allocative systems. No correction factor is applied.

## Checks this equation passes

On every build, the library's form and the source's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.

| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |

The calculator on the page shows carbon as biomass × 0.47 (IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Vol. 4, Ch. 4, Table 4.3) and CO₂e as carbon × 44/12.
